Putting a ruined home back together piece by piece feels surprisingly rewarding. You head out, fight through some rather peculiar creatures, bring back supplies, and return to find the old refuge looking a little less miserable. The weapon selection is good fun to tinker with, especially once upgrades start changing how each one handles. A few late-game encounters are properly nasty, but there's no shame in using the easier options when you'd rather enjoy the story. The 2026 fan-made Android port comes with the full game content unlocked. Its gorgeous painted scenery, wistful music, and that wonderfully dry old narrator have lost very little of their charm. By the time the final pieces fall into place, the Bastion feels like somewhere you've actually worked to keep alive.
